Graduation 2016: Royal Agricultural Society of England Award - Anthony Ashby

The RASE award for the best agricultural student, both academically and practically, has been awarded to Anthony Ashby. 

Anthony, 22, from Corsham, Wiltshire, completed the BSc(Hons) Agriculture programme at Harper Adams University. 

Presenting the prize, Dr Russell Readman, course manager, said: “Anthony’s academic performance on the course has been excellent and he has achieved a first-class BSc(Hons) degree.

“Anthony has a wide range of practical experience of UK farming, including dairy, beef, sheep and arable experience gained from work on the home farm and other farms. 

“Anthony undertook his placement year with a large lime, fertiliser and compost spreading contract operation in Kent, where he had considerable responsibility. Feedback from his employer was excellent. 

“Anthony has returned to the home farm, comprising a pedigree Sussex suckler herd and Christmas tree plantation, where he is implementing theoretical and practical knowledge gained during his studies to develop the business further.

“He has already added a free range chicken enterprise and plans to develop and expand the beef enterprise in association with a local farm shop. 

“Overall Anthony has demonstrated excellent academic and practical understanding of agriculture during his studies and is a well deserving recipient of the Royal Agricultural Society of England Prize.”
